The Billy Q. McCray papers are those of a long time Kansas resident who served in both the Kansas House of Representatives and the Kansas Senate before becoming director of the Kansas Department of Economic Development Office of Minority Business. Billy McCray was born October 29, 1927 in Geary, Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Dover, Oklahoma in 1945. After two years at Langston University, Langston, Oklahoma, McCray enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for four years. He subsequently attended the University of Colorado, majoring in journalism. In 1951 he was hired by the Boeing Company in Wichita, with whom he remained employed for nearly thirty years.
